Measurable sustainability results from 5430 Sports’ 2007 events
Pearl Street Mile - August 2007
- 32 gallons of plastic bags recycled
- 96 gallons of cardboard recycled, saving the equivalent of 1 tree
- 384 gallons of commingled containers recycled, saving the equivalent of 652 Kilowatt hours of energy and 602 gallons of water
- 90 gallons of compostable materials collected, creating 450 lbs of compost
5430 Long Course Triathlon - August 2007
- Event operations carbon neutral with purchase of renewable wind
energy credits (Cool Tags).
- Racers bought enough Cool Tags at the event to offset over 77,000
miles of driving.
- Zero Waste Event with a 92% diversion rate (% of total waste collected and diverted from landfill)
- 192 gallons of plastic bags recycled!
- 1200 gallons of cardboard recycled, saving the equivalent of 11 trees
- 976 gallons of commingled containers recycled, saving the equivalent of 1529 Kilowatt hours of energy
- 2112 gallons of compostable materials collected, creating 10,560 lbs of compost
West-End 3K - July 2007
- Recycled 110 gallons of cardboard (saving equivalent of 1 tree)
- Recycled 135 gallons of commingled containers (saving equivalent of 240 Kilowatt hours of energy)
- Created 450 pounds of compost
EAS 5430 Boulder Peak Triathlon - July 2007
- Carbon neutral event
- 3.25 tons of carbon emissions produced by event expo and fuel usage was offset with Native Energy renewable energy credits.
- Racers bought enough cool tags ($2 Native Energy renewable energy credits) to offset 97 tons of carbon emissions, the equivalent of 97,000 miles of driving!
- Zero Waste Event with a 93% diversion rate (% of total waste collected and diverted from landfill)
- 1350 gallons of cardboard recycled (saving equivalent of 13 trees)
- 1002 gallons of commingled containers recycled (saving equivalent of 1705 Kilowatt hours of energy)
- Created 7,245 lbs of compost
EAS 5430 Sprint Triathlon - June 2007
- Carbon neutral: 3.15 tons of CO2 emissions from event electricity usage and fuel usage offset with Native Energy renewable energy credits.
- Racers bought enough Clif Bar Cool Tags ($2 Native Energy renewable energy credits) to offset over 28,000 miles of driving.
- 93.08% diversion rate (% of total waste collected saved from landfill)
- 1200 gallons cardboard (saved 11.33 trees)
- 704 compostables (saved 2.65 tons compost)
- 789 commingled (saved 1341.3 kilowatt hours of energy)
- 202.5 gallons trash ended up in the landfill
Uni-Hill 2K: Zero Waste event - May 2007
- 90.24% diversion rate (% of total waste collected saved from landfill)
- 80 gallons cardboard (saved 0.755 trees)
- 64 compostables (saved 0.241 tons compost)
- 64 commingled (saved 108.8 kilowatt hours of energy)
- 22.5 gallons trash ended up in the landfill
